WASECA, Minn. -- Two workers were killed and at least four were injured late Saturday when a roof collapsed at the Brown Printing Co. at the edge of Waseca.

Albert Ytuarte of Janesville, Minn., and Gary Gerdis of Waseca were killed, officials said.

Four other Waseca area men were taken to hospitals for treatment - Howard Edwards, Harold Christianson, Ron Wolf and Marvin Landkammer. None was hurt seriously. Two were treated and released and two were admitted to hospitals.

Officials said a crane was brought in to lift the heavy beams that collapsed to make sure no one was trapped under the wreckage.

The roof over a press room collapsed about 2:30 p.m. The cause of the collapse was not known. About 3 inches of new snow fell on the area Saturday.

The big printing plant is just west of Waseca on U.S. Highway 14. Waseca is about 60 miles south of the Twin Cities.

Judy Bloom, personnel director at Waseca Community Hospital, said some nurses were sent to the scene to treat the injured.

Greg Ristau, who works near the plant, said, 'It looks like the building was hit by artillery shells. It's a mess.'

He said a big wall went out, damaging some vehicles which were parked nearby.

Ristau estimated the wall was about 50 feet by 60 feet and the roof section was about 60 feet by 80 feet.

Officials said a structural engineer was called in to help determine the cause.
