As unlikely as it seems, Watergate mastermind G. Gordon Liddy and gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson have found something they can agree on -- the decline of the Reagan administration. Liddy and Thompson appeared at a loosely organized debate at Brown University Friday night.
'This immensely popular man (President Reagan) is not in control,' Thompson said. 'Ed Meese has been in charge of the government. Reaganism is a failed experiment.' Liddy's opinion: 'The Reagan administration certainly is failing now. It is almost disintegrating.' Liddy drew hisses from the crowd when he said he would get involved in a Watergate-style caper again -- but only if the circumstances were similar and he could pick all of the participants. Thompson expressed his bitterness about being portrayed in Garry Trudeau's 'Doonesbury' comic strip and Liddy twitted him about it by pointing to his own appearances on 'Miami Vice.' 'But you get paid,' Thompson told Liddy. 'I'd rather be on 'Miami Vice.''
