MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Bill Moody scored three touchdowns and Memphis State rolled up 427 yards in total offense Saturday in a 43-8 rout of Louisville.
Linebacker Marlon Brown had four sacks to lead a Memphis State defense that allowed the Cardinals to pass midfield only three times.
The Tigers improved to 4-5-1 while Louisville finished 3-7-1.
Memphis State scored on its first possession on sophomore Tim Jones' 1-yard quarterback sneak, capping a 56-yard drive that took 1:12. Fullback Wayne Pryor rambled for an 11-yard score at the end of the first quarter to cap a 55-yard drive and make it 14-0.
Moody, a junior fullback who had only 13 rushing yards, made it 21-0 on a 5-yard run midway through the second quarter.
Tigers linebacker Damon Young intercepted a Jay Gruden pass and returned the ball 32 yards to the 6. On the next play Jones, who passed for 131 yards, hit Moody on a rollout for a 27-0 lead with 5:56 left in the half.
Louisville drove 70 yards on 14 plays on its first possession of the second half as Gruden, who passed for 152 yards, scored from the 1 on a bootleg. Gruden hit Joey Hamilton on a two-point conversion pass to make it 27-8.
Butler added a 26-yard field goal and Moody scored on a 4-yard run to put MSU up 36-8.
Backup quarterback Rusty Trail hit tight end Duke Atkins with a 4-yard TD strike with 2:37 remaining to make it 43-8.
