Wimbledon champion Cash, who returned after being sidelined with an injured right knee, combined with Doohan to down the Indians 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours, 29 minutes.

India had stunned Australia Friday by taking a 2-0 lead on singles' victories by Ramesh Krishnan over John Fitzgerald and Vijay Amritraj over Wally Masur.

The semifinals end Sunday with singles matches that include Indian Captain Vijay Amritraj against Fitzgerald and Krishan against Masur.

'Of course we feel confident,' said Vijay Amritraj. 'India is leading 2-1 and we have Krishan playing in the last match of the tie. That's a good position for us to be in the way he is playing.'

India is looking for its third berth in the Davis Cup finals. It made the finals in 1966 against Australia at Melbourne, losing 4-1, and in 1974, when the Indians withdrew against South Africa to protest apartheid policy in that nation.
