On The Record

(Country) Barbara Mandrell, 'Sure Feels Good' (EMI America, ELT46956)

This is Mandrell's first EMI America album and she is on the right path to scaling the recording heights she previously occupied. The first cut is an authoritative version of the old hit, 'Just To Satisfy You,' a great song written years ago by Waylon Jennings and Don Bowman.

Mandrell has seen the wisdom of going back to the kinds of songs which launched her to stardom and the result is positive. 'It All Came True' is a fine traditional country song and Mandrell puts supreme energy into her performance with terrific results.

Another super song is 'Child Support,' penned by Thom Schuyler. It's about a father late on his payments and the mother gets her child support from her son. It's a touching song that Mandrell sings with emotion.

'Angels Love Bad Men,' written for the singer by Jennings and Roger Murrah, is another fine song, with Jennings contributing on the vocals.

Mandrell should be proud of this effort which should put her back on top of the charts.
