WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Eagles President Harry Gamble met for a third straight day with Robert Fraley, the agent for Philadelphia's No. 1 draft pick, defensive lineman Jerome Brown from Miami.

Brown was one of three draft picks and five veterans who remained unsigned and out of training camp, while veteran wide receiver Mike Quick continued his holdout in an attempt to renegotiate his contract.

In other news, the Eagles signed free-agent wide receiver Steve Bird. Bird, 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, went to Eastern Kentucky and was the St. Louis Cardinals' fifth-round draft pick in 1983. Bird played one game for the San Diego Chargers, then two seasons in the Canadian Football League.

The Eagles also waived Tom Strauthers, who failed his physical, and Scott Leggett.
