BALTIMORE -- Stan Stamenkovic, the MISL star who retired last season, could play next season with the Baltimore Blast, team officials said Wednesday.

'He's made a decision himself that he would like to come back and play,' said Dan Counce, general manager for the Blast.

'That's one step closer to coming back.'

Stamenkovic had problems getting a visa to come to the United States from his native Yugoslavia. He then retired to open a restaurant.

He played two seasons of indoor soccer in Memphis and three years with Baltimore, racking up 211 goals and 270 assists. The Blast's all-time assist leader, Stamenkovic led the Blast to its only championship.

Blast Coach Kenny Cooper visited Stamenkovic in Yugoslavia Sunday and told team officials the player is in 'reasonably good condition.' Cooper is to discuss Stamenkovic at a news conference Friday in Baltimore.

According to the MISL Players Association, Stamenkovic has one year remaining on his contract worth $100,000 when he left at the end of the 1985-86 season.
