CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls Wednesday traded forward Earl Cureton to the Los Angeles Clippers for a second-round draft pick in 1989.

A Bulls spokesman said the conditions of the trade were Cureton had to make the Clippers' roster in 1988 and 1989 for the Bulls to receive the second-round pick.

Otherwise, the Clippers would give up a third-round choice in 1989.

Cureton, 29, is in his seventh NBA season, including three with Philadelphia, three with Detroit and half a season with Chicago. He was traded from Detroit to Chicago, which gave up forward Sidney Green in the deal last October.

Cureton played in 43 games with Chicago, started 36, and averaged 6.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

'We hated to part with Earl but we feel the development of our young players like Charles Oakley, Brad Sellers and Mike Brown along with veterans Gene Banks and Dave Corzine gives us good front-line stability,' Bulls General Manager Jerry Krause said.

Elgin Baylor, the Clippers' executive vice president, said, 'The acquisition of Earl will help to strengthen our play on the frontline. Earl has played both the center and power forward position, which is a big bonus.'
