New York Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden and three other men were charged Monday with resisting an officer with violence in a Dec. 13 altercation with police. The 1985 National League Cy Young Award winner also was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer. Each charge is a third-degree felony which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
... Charles County (Md.) commissioners have scrapped plans to erect a sports stadium that would have brought minor-league baseball to south Maryland.
