ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Commerce Secretary Malcolm Baldridge is undergoing tests at the University of New Mexico Hospital and is listed in satisfactory condition, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Baldridge was admitted Saturday with breathing difficulty and his condition has been steadily improving, hospital spokeswoman Judy Ewald said.
The 64-year-old Baldridge 'apparently thought this was a relapse of a flu virus he had had earlier in December,' Ewald said.
'It hasn't been determined what he had,' she said. 'They've run an aggressive battery of tests and have ruled out more obvious things that might have been wrong, including flu.'
When Baldridge was first admitted, he was placed in a coronary care unit, but was moved to a private room when heart trouble was ruled out. He is still receiving supplemental oxygen, Ewald said.
Baldridge, an original member of the President Reagan's Cabinet, was visiting his daughter at the time of his hospitalization.
