FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Police made one arrest and said they expected to make more in the deaths of two men who were killed in a barroom fire that witnesses say began when someone set the tavern's Christmas tree ablaze.
Terry McCoy, 35, of Fort Collins was arrested Sunday in connection with the Saturday night fire at The People's Bar.
He was being held on first-degree murder and first-degree arson charges at the Larimer County Jail.
McCoy was arrested after several witnesses told investigators they saw someone set the Christmas tree on fire with a cigarette lighter.
'We're quite certain it was intentionally set, and have one person under arrest,' said Fire Chief Chuck Willis of the area fire authority. 'We have another suspect or two still out and hope to make some more arrests.'
Willis said the two men who died were found in a restroom.
'The witnesses we interviewed said the two both went into a bathroom to try to get water to put out the fire,' he said. 'The fire was between them and the exit, and they apparently became disoriented.'
Two other people were taken to Poudre Valley Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and minor burns.
