GRANT REMEMBERED

President Reagan and his wife, Nancy, were among those saddened by the death of their friend Cary Grant. He was one of the brightest stars in Hollywood and his elegance, wit and charm will endure forever on film and in our hearts,' Reagan said in a statement from Air Force 1 as he flew to Washington from his California ranch.

'We will always cherish the memory of his warmth, his loyalty and his friendship and we will miss him dearly.' Charlton Heston never worked with Grant but said he was as 'close to being unique as anyone this side of Charlie Chaplin' and admitted a envying the urbane Grant. 'All those years I was slaving away pulling an oar in some galley, racing chariots, risking my life parting the Red Sea,' Heston said, 'I used to say it would be marvelous to be wear handsome clothes, while saying beautiful things to beautiful women in beautiful drawing rooms like Cary Grant could.' Grant died Satrday night at the age of 82 in a Davenport, Iowa, hospital.
