NEW ORLEANS -- Sophomore quarterback Terrence Jones broke a school record for total offense and scored the only touchdown Saturday to lead Tulane to a 15-6 victory over Memphis State.
Jones totaled 188 yards -- 95 in the air and 93 on the ground -- for a season-total of 2,486 yards.
Jones' totals eclipse the single-season Green Wave mark set by quarterback Roch Hontas in 1979.
With Tulane leading 6-0 in the third quarter, Jones drove the Green Wave 69 yards for the score, converting three third-down situations. Jones, among the leaders in the nation in total offense, scored on a 1-yard run.
A third field goal by Dan Guirl early in the fourth quarter gave the Green Wave a 12-0 lead.
The Tigers got their only score later in the quarter on a 98-yard drive that featured a 4th and 2 conversion and a pass interference call that gave Memphis State a first down at the Tulane 30. On the next play, Wayne Pryor gaied 28 yards to the 2. Pryor scored up the middle, but the 2-point attempt failed.
Tulane is 4-6; Memphis State 1-9.
