DALLAS -- The Dallas Cowboys Tuesday re-signed cornerback Manny Hendrix, who was cut before the regular season, and released cornerback Cornell Gowdy, who had beaten Hendrix for the job in training camp.

'Hendrix was a good-looking prospect.

He made it to almost the last cut,' said Greg Aiello, a Cowboys spokesman.

Hendrix is a rookie free agent from Utah, where he was all-Western Athletic Conference in basketball, Aiello said.

Also cut Tuesday was defensive end Jesse Baker, an eight-year pro from Jackson State picked up by the Cowboys from Houston earlier this season. He played three games for Dallas.

Baker will be replaced on the roster by defensive end Bob Otto, a first-year free agent from Idaho State.

Otto also was cut by the Cowboys during training camp.

Gowdy was a first-year player from Morgan State who was cut by Pittsburgh last season.
