Three-time U.S. steeplechase champion Flatterer and a jumper owned...

FAIR HILL, Md. -- Three-time U.S. steeplechase champion Flatterer and a jumper owned by Queen Elizabeth were among 45 horses nominated Thursday for the first running of the $250,000 Breeders' Cup Steeplechase.

The world's richest steeplechase race will be run at Fair Hill Race Course as part of the Nov. 1 Breeder's Cup program.

The list of nominees include 25 American steeplechase horses, 10 from France, four each from Britain and Ireland and two from New Zealand.

The foreign nominees include Gacko, who was third in the French Champion Hurdle, and Very Promising, who was third in the English steeplechase championships.

Insular, the Queen Mother's horse, won the Imperial Cup at Sandown Park March 8 and will run Sept. 20 at Newbury Race Course.

The race will cover 2 3-8 miles over 16 jumps for a purse of $250,000, with $125,000 going to the winner.
