Three players each from the University of Denver and...

NEW YORK -- Three players each from the University of Denver and Bowling Green were among 24 college hockey players drafted by 21 National Hockey League teams.

The NHL conducted its 1986 supplemental draft Wednesday to select free agent players who will be 21 or older by Dec. 31, never had been claimed in the NHL entry draft and never played pro hockey but had played at least one season of collegiate hockey.

Players from 18 schools were chosen including goalie Chris Olson (Boston), center Jeff Lamb (Pittsburgh) and defenseman David Gourlie (Vancouver) from the University of Denver and defenseman Brian McKee (Minnesota), goalie Gary Krusich (Islanders) and right wing Mike Natyshak (Quebec).

Other players selected, by team, were: Boston, Olson; Buffalo, forward Jeff Capallo of the University of Vermont and center John Cullen of Boston University; Calgary, left wing Steve MacEwain of the University of Minnesota; Chicago, defenseman Dave Randall of Northern Michigan University; Detroit, defenseman Rob Doyle of Colorado College; Edmonton, defenseman Peter Heinze of the University of Lowell; Hartford, right wing Joe Tracy of Ohio State.

Los Angeles, center Robert Kudelski of Yale and left wing Grant Paranika of the University of North Dakota; Minnesota, McKee; Montreal, goalie Randy Exelby of Lake Superior State College; New Jersey, right wings Glen Engevik of Northern Arizona and Tim Berakett of Harvard; New York Islanders, Krusich; New York Rangers, center Gary Emmons of Northern Michigan; Philadelphia, passed without selecting any players.

Pittsburgh, Lamb and defenseman Randy Taylor of Harvard; Quebec, Natyshak; St. Louis, defenseman Marty Raus of Northeastern; Toronto, goalie Art Fitzgerald of Trinity College; Vancouver, Gourlie; Washington, defenseman Steve Cousins of the University of Alberta; and Winnipeg, center Chris Levasseur of Alaska-Anchorage.
