NEW YORK -- The U.S. Baseball Federation Thursday invited 30 college players to try out for the USA Baseball Team that will participate in the 1986 World Championships in Holland.
Named to coach the 20-player team was Bob Bennett, coach at Fresno State.
Assistants include Rich Alday on Pima Community College in Arizona, Missouri coach Gene McArtor and Bill Thurston, coach of Amherst College in Massachusetts.
The team, sponsored by Plymouth, will hold tryouts in Tennessee in June and tour the U.S. and Canada before the World Championships in July. The U.S. has not won the championship since 1974.
