WASHINGTON -- Some White House reporters are sporting new yellow T-shirts emblazoned with the large letters 'S.O.B.'
In tiny letters below the initials is the slogan Sons of the Basement,' referring to the reporters who are installed on the lower level, or basement, of the White House press center.
The T-shirts were quickly created in the aftermath of President Reagan's undeleted expletive 'sons of bitches' heard on an open microphone as reporters were departing the Cabinet Room last Friday.
It followed a few questions about Ferdinand Marcos and the Philippines that apparently irritated the president.
When Reagan saw the T-shirt worn by veteran reporter Sarah McClendon and others during a 'photo opportunity' Monday, he repeated what he said last Friday: 'I thought that's what you said.'
