VADUZ, Liechtenstein -- Women voted for the first time in Liechtenstein over the weekend and promptly ensured the election of the first woman to the 15-member Parliament.

Men in the 27,000-population principality wedged between Switzerland and Austria voted in 1984 to give women the right to vote in national elections.

The composition of the new Parliament was unchanged with the National Union Party remaining in power with eight seats and the People's Progressive Party staying in opposition with seven seats.

Emma Eigenmann, the first female deputy, belongs to the opposition party.

A new Liberal Party failed to obtain the eight percent of all votes required for representation.
