BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green State University today named Howard 'Moe' Ankney, an assistant at Arizona for the past six years, as its new head football coach.
Ankney, a Xenia native and 1964 BG graduate, replaces Denny Stolz, who resigned to take the heading coaching job at San Diego State.
Ankney, defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Arizona, was a quarterback on Coach Doyt L. Perry's 1961-63 BG teams that posted a three-year record of 25-5-1.
'After I graduated from Bowling Green in 1964 and went on to become a high school coach, I always dreamed that I might follow in the footsteps of Doyt Perry and coach at Bowling Green,' said Ankney.
Ankney brings with him to BG 15 years of collegiate coaching experience, all at the Division I-A level, including stints at Ball State and Tulane.
Ankney was graduated in 1960 from Kettering Fairmont High School, where he was an All-Ohio quarterback and four-year letterman.
