NEW YORK -- The U.S. Football League became the first professional sports league to commit to satelliet syndication as a means of accessing a nationwide audience by signing an agreement with RCA American Communications, Inc. for the 1986 fall season, USFL Commissioner Harry Usher announced Tuesday.

RCA American Communications will launch the nation's most powerful communications satellite via the space shuttle Atlantis Nov. 27. The satellite will programmed to reach 550 broadcast TV stations, which the USFL will utilize to distribute its 1986 game.
