COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M's largest player - 339-pound offensive lineman Marshall Land -- may be one of the team's best conditioned athletes, Aggies coach Jackie Sherrill said Saturday.

Sherrill, after A&M's third day of workouts in shorts, said he was pleased with the conditioning of his team but was particularly proud of Land, who reported to A&M last winter at 378 pounds after playing at Sacramento (Calif.)

'It's obvious that he did a lot of conditioning on his own this summer. Otherwise, he couldn't be doing what he's doing in this heat,' Sherrill said. 'He's certainly going to help us.'

Land used a 1,000-calorie-per-day diet to drop to 328 pounds after spring practice, but Sherrill feels he can play effectively at 340.

Senior defensive end Guy Broom was at full speed Saturday morning after suffering a separated shoulder Friday.

The Aggies' first workout in pads will be Monday.
