Kloppenburg was the Sonics' head scout in 1979-80 and for the past year has served under Jerry Tarkanian at Nevada-Las Vegas. In between, he served as a defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Cavaliers and as scouts for the Clippers and Washington Bullets.

Miller, who has scouted for the Sonics the past year, will continue to scout as well as share the assistant coaching job with Kloppenburg, said Sonics assistant media coordinator Sam Tuttle.

The two co-assistants replace assistant coach Dick Helm, who was let go by the team Tuesday after serving a year under Wilkens during his last season as coach.
