PHILADELPHIA -- Former Los Angeles Clippers coach Jim Lynam has been hired by the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant coach, it was announced Monday.

Philadelphia coach Matt Guokas, hired last week to replace Billy Cunningham, said Lynam would join current assistant Jack McMahon on his staff.

Lynam, who spent most of the last two years coaching the Clippers, was fired by Los Angeles in March and later accepted a job as head coach at Loyola Marymount in California.

But Guokas contacted Lynam about joining his staff and Lynam accepted the position. He will be Guokas' main bench assistant while McMahon concentrates on scouting.

Lynam previously coached for three years at St. Joseph's, posting a 65-28 record, and served as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.
