CLEVELAND -- Chip Banks' agent says the disgruntled Cleveland Browns linebacker will meet with team owner Art Modell Friday.
However, Modell said through a team spokesman that no meeting had been scheduled with Banks or his agent, Harold Daniels.
'I am accessible and willing to meet with Chip Banks and his representatives,' said Modell through Browns vice president of public relations Kevin Byrne.
'It's my understanding that Mr. Daniels will call me tomorrow (Friday). However, we haven't set up any sort of meeting.'
Daniels said from his Los Angeles office that Banks was in Cleveland and 'all set to talk with the Browns again.'
Banks, who met with Modell May 16, reportedly is unhappy because he initially was traded to Buffalo for the supplemental draft pick that will secure Miami quarterback Bernie Kosar.
When Banks failed to report, the Bills chose the Browns' top pick in the just-concluded draft.
Banks, a Southern Califronia product, then went into hiding in Atlanta and had his phone number changed. He did not resurface in Cleveland until his meeting with Modell.
'We have things to work out,' said Daniels. 'It is important to maintain communication at this point.'
Banks, who did not report for the Browns' mandatory mini-camp, apparently is seeking to renegotiate his contract.
It has been learned that Banks is not dissatisfied with the financial aspects of a contract that paid him $250,000 last season and also included a $500,000 loan that was forgiven by Modell.
'Chip is just hurt that the Browns traded him,' said the source. 'And, his agent is looking to flex his muscles.'
Daniels maintained that 'certain matters need to be worked out,' though he would not get specific.
'You have to realize that Chip Banks is a valuable asset to the Cleveland Browns. It's in their best interest to keep him happy.'
