CINCINNATI -- Wide receiver Cris Collinsworth's new deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, to which he returned after an aborted fling with the USFL, is worth $2.1 million, a published report said Friday.

The Cincinnati Post reported that the four-year deal, which includes a $400,000 bonus and a base salary of $1.7 million, makes him the second-highest player on the club behind veteran quarterback Ken Anderson.

The Post said it obtained details of Collinsworth's contract from a source with access to figures compiled by the NFL Players Association.

The paper said Collinsworth will play for a $350,000 base salary in 1985, $400,000 in 1986, $450,000 in 1987 and $550,000 in 1988.

The contract, agreed to in February, pays significantly less than the three-time Pro Bowl player would have received with the USFL's Tampa Bay Bandits.

Two years ago, Collinsworth agreed to a $3 million future contract with the Bandits that was to have begun this season. But as opening day of the USFL season grew closer, Bandits general partner John Bassett made it clear the club no longer was interested in Collinsworth and freed him to re-sign with the Bengals.
