DETROIT -- NBD Bancorp Inc. announced Thursday it has completed its acquisition of United Michigan Corp. for more than $78 million.
United Michigan is the parent of Genesee Merchants Bank & Trust Co. of Flint, Peoples State Bank of Caro, Community State Bank of Fowlerville and United Michigan Mortgage Co.
It operates 38 banking offices throughout mid-Michigan.
NBD Bancorp is the state's largest bank holding company. The acquisition brings the number of Michigan banks owned by NBD Bancorp to 22, including National Bank of Detroit.
The merger agreement, announced last Aug. 30, was approved by United Michigan shareholders on Nov. 20. The Federal Reserve Board approved the merger on Feb. 25.
NBD Bancorp. with $14.2 billion in assets prior to the acquisition of United Michigan, also is the parent of finance, mortgage, trust, leasing, venture capital and consumer credit subsidiaries.
