PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles Thursday announced the hiring of Milt Jackson, receivers coach for the Buffalo Bills for the last two seasons, as running back coach.

Jackson, 41, replaces Billie Matthews, who recently was named offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.

Jackson, who played his college football at Tulsa, served as receiver and special teams coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 1980 to 1982. Before that, he coached tackles and tight ends at UCLA in 1979, served as defensive backfield coach at Oregon in 1977 and 1978 and was linebacker coach at California in 1975 and 1976.

'Before entering the pro ranks, Milt displayed a well-rounded background of coaching, including running backs and offensive linemen,' said Eagles coach Marion Campbell. 'Combined with his experience as a receivers coach in the NFL, Milt comes to us as one who's thoroughly schooled in all phases of the offensive game and this should be a big help to us.'

Jackson said he was looking forward to working for the Eagles.
