WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Frederick Holliday, the Cleveland school superintendent who committed suicide, was buried during a snowfall Thursday in a service attended by about 30 family members and friends.
'The family was very insistent upon only close family friends being there,' said Terry Quinn, director of Rolling Green Memorial Park in Chester County.
Quinn said police were summoned to keep reporters and photographers away from the burial site.
Holiday 58, a former assistant to the Philadelphia school superintendent, had held a similar post in York and in Plainfield, N.J. He had left instructions outlining funeral arrangements.
His suicide note was an open letter to Cleveland in which he blamed his suicide on the 'petty politics' of the school board.
An autopsy showed Holliday had shot himself in the chest Saturday. His body was found Monday.
