CARROLLTON, Ga. -- West Georgia College football coach Bobby Pate has resigned to accept a post as athletic director and football coach at Hart County High School in Hartwell, Ga. The resignation is effective Friday.

Pate, who began his coaching career at Hart County High 22 years ago, called the decision the toughest he has ever had to make.

'It was such an attractive offer that common sense told me it was something I just had to do,' Pate said.

Pate, who led West Georgia to the NCAA Division III national championship in 1982, said he had 'really grown tired of the college recruiting. It's been time consuming and it started to wear me down.'

Pate, 48, had a 28-15 record in his four seasons at West Georgia. After moving up to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference, the Braves posted 4-6 and 3-8 records the past two seasons.
