He was named Manager of the Year in the Class A league.

'Buddy has been an integral part of the Met family for almost two decades now,' said Steve Schryver, New York's director of minor-league operations. 'We know that he will continue to excel as a manager just as he did as a player.'

Harrelson, 40, played 13 seasons with the Mets, including the 1969 World Championship and 1973 National League Championship teams. An excellent fielder, he was named an NL All-Star in 1970 and '71.

He had a career .236 batting average in 16 major league seasons with the Mets, Philadelphia and Texas.
