'Chris has run a great race.

He has left his mark. Even in his death his life is touching the hearts of people,' said Father James Dowd of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Eugene.

During the service at England's Memorial Chapel, speakers said the 36-year-old sprinter should be remembered for his work with troubled youths at Skipworth, a Lane County juvenile detention facility.

'His final steps came as he did what he loved best -- running. May he rest and run in peace,' one speaker said.

Brathwaite's wife Sharon and his 5-year-old son Shawn both attended the funeral. Also attending were his brothers, Renrick and Tony Brathwaite, and several other relatives who traveled from his native Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

Renrick said his brother was adored by his family and his home country. 'Dad was so proud of him,' he said.

Renrick said Chris got his start in running by competing with him for prizes of mangoes and peanuts while growing up in Trinidad. He participated as a sprinter in the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games representing his native Trinidad and was a semifinalist in the 100-meters at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

The funeral for 19-year-old Michael Feher, the sniper who also wounded University of Oregon wrestler Rick O'Shea before committing suicide, was held Thursday in his hometown of Everett, Wash.

Police said lab tests showed that Feher, who had a small amount of cocaine in the pocket of his combat fatigues at the time of the shootings, had the drug in his system.
