CINCINNATI -- Steve Cox of the Cleveland Browns kicked a 60-yard field goal Sunday, the second-longest in NFL history.

The NFL record is 63 yards by Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints in 1970.

Cleveland's regular kicker is Matt Bahr. But Cox, a kickoff man and punter, was called on to try the 60-yarder because of his strong leg. He connected on a 58-yarder last year.

Cox kicked his 60-yarder with 28 second left in the first half against the Cincinnati Bengals, giving the Browns a 6-6 halftime tie.

The previous second-best field goal was a 59-yarder by Tony Franklin in 1979.
