SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers Friday signed kicker Benny Ricardo to replace Rolf Benirschke, who is recovering from kidney stone surgery.

Benirschke is definitely out for Sunday's game against Kansas City and mightmiss the following Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Ricardo was cut by the Minnesota Vikings in training camp. He was originally signed by the Chargers out of San Diego State in 1975.

To make room on the roster for Ricardo, the Chargers waived tight end Ron Egloff.
