Ugliest man to meet ugliest coed

INDIANA, Pa. -- Ugliest boy soon will meet ugliest girl.

A blind date is planned for Bruce Morgan, an Indiana University of Pennsylvania criminology major and the country's ugliest male college student, and his yet-to-be-chosen female counterpart from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

'She's pretty lucky, isn't she,' Morgan said with a chuckle Tuesday. The blind date is set for Oct. 20, during IUP's homecoming weekend.

Morgan was crowned last month in a contest IUP students held at a campus watering hole, Caleco's College Pub.

The pageant was prompted by 'College Book' author Lisa Birnbach's selection of IUP as the home of the nation's ugliest male students.

The University of Alaska-Fairbanks received the dubious distinction of having, in Birnbach's opinion, the least attractive female students.

UAF's contest, with 'Beauty Is Only Parka Deep' as its slogan, is scheduled for Sunday, said school spokesman Stephen Lay.

'The girls who are entering are far from ugly,' he added.

The winner receives a free trip to to IUP, a small college some 40 miles east of Pittsburgh, and a blind date with Morgan.

'I imagine she's going to be really good looking,' Morgan said of his escort-to-be. 'So far, Birnbach hasn't been right.'

Morgan, who is 6-foot-3, 300 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes, said that beyond riding in the parade, details of the couple's appearances at the homecoming activities haven't been worked out.

'I really don't know what we're going to do after that,' Morgan said.

'We'll probably go back to the bar where I was crowned' and where he now works as a bartender.

Proceeds from part of the homecoming activities will go to charity.

Since he hasn't had the pleasure of meeting his date yet, Morgan said it would be hard to predict how things will go.

'I had a premonition one night that I was going to start a new race of human beings. So if it's in the cards, maybe that will be what's goingto happen.

'Our children will end up ruling the world.'
