Japan Open Champion Etsuko Inoue upset defending titlist Lisa...

TOKYO -- Japan Open Champion Etsuko Inoue upset defending titlist Lisa Bonner 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, Saturday in the semifinals of a $75,000 tennis tournament.

The No. 3 seed 19-year-old came back from a 1-6 first set to roll by Bonder, ranked 13th by the Women's Tennis Association, won the tournament in 1982 and 1983.

Inoue will meet second-seeded Beth Herr in Sunday's final.

Herr, 20, of Dayton, Ohio also came from behind from to beat reigning Japan Champion Masuko Yanagi 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In the doubles semifinals, Emilse Rapponi Longo and Adriana Villagran of Argentina defeated the American team of Micki Schillig and Helena Manset in the closest match of the day, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 7-5.

Roni Reis of the United States and Mercedes Paz of Argentina beat Inoue and Lilian Drescher of Switzerland, 6-4, 7-5.

The winner of the singles competetion will receive $13,000 and the doubles winners will share $4,600.

The tournament is sponsored by Virginia Slims.
