CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday recalled linebacker Brian Pillman and wide receiver Clay Pickering, one day after cutting the rookies to reduce the roster to 49 players.

To make room for them, guard Mike Obrovac and defensive back Bobby Kemp were placed on injured reserve.

In four pre-season games, Pillman, a former Miami (Ohio) player, had three tackles and three assists. Pickering, from the University of Maine, caught five passes for 52 yards.

The return of Pillman is expected to hearten many Bengals fans. He is a free agent who hails from nearby Norwood, and his fight for a spot on the Bengals roster was cronicled in local newspapers as something of a Cinderella story.

Many observers believed that Pillman and Pickering were to be reinstated to the Bengals, as both continued working out with the team after being cut Monday.
