The 6-foot-5, 235-pound temporarily replaces All-Pro punter Rich Camarillo, who suffered a knee injury in Friday night's pre-season game against the Washington Redskins. Camarillo is expected to be out about two months.

Prestridge lost the first-string punting job this season to free agent Chris Norman of the University of South Carolina. Norman kicked for a 41.9 yard average this pre-season while Prestridge averaged 38.3 yards.

Prestridge had a 45.0 average in 1982, when he made the Pro Bowl, and averaged 41.6 yards last season, ranking eighth in the AFC.

Overall in his pro career he has averaged 41.8 yards a kick.
