Possible suspensions resulting from Sunday's brawl-filled Atlanta-San Diego game...

NEW YORK -- Possible suspensions resulting from Sunday's brawl-filled Atlanta-San Diego game will not be determined until the end of this week, a National League spokeswoman said Monday.

Two bench-clearing brawls that resulted in the ejection of 13 players and coaches and the arrests of five overzealous fans at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium spiced the Braves' 5-3 victory over the Padres.

NL President Chub Feeney has to review films and read umpires' reports of the incident before he levies any suspensions, the spokeswoman said. Feeney is currently in Philadelphia for the league's summer meetings beginning Wednesday.

Any suspensions will be announced by the league at the end of the week and fines resulting from the brawl will be announced by the respective clubs.

Steve Bedrosian, Rick Mahler, Gerald Perry, Donnie Moore and Manager Joe Torre were ejected for the Braves. Bobby Brown, Champ Summers, Ed Whitson, Greg Booker, Craig Lefferts, Manager Dick Williams and coaches Jack Krol and Ozzie Virgil were the Padres tossed out.

The trouble began when San Diego's Alan Wiggins was hit by Pascual Perez's first pitch of the game.

Perez, who was brushed back in his first three at-bats, was hit by reliever Lefferts' first pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning - triggering one of the full-scale brawls. Both benches emptied and fans came onto the field as a series of fights broke out.

The second brawl came in the top of the ninth when Moore, in relief of Perez, hit Graig Nettles with an 0-1 pitch, causing both benches to clear.

Fans on the third-base side began throwing beer at the players and one fan bolted out of the left-field stands and tried to steal a loose helmet. Atlanta players Chris Chambliss and Jerry Royster tackled him on the third-base bag and held him for police.

The umpires then had both benches and bullpens cleared and police lined both dugouts for the remainder of the game.
