WASHINGTON -- Bridge play continued today while police searched for the wife of a seeded player, abducted late Thursday night during play in the 1984 Spingold Master Teams Trophy race of the 1984 Summer North American Championships.

Edith Rosenkranz, whose husband reached the No. 3 seed position in Spingold tournament play Thursday, was abducted at gunpoint from the Sheraton Washington Hotel and listed as missing, law enforcement officials said early today.

Dr. George Rosenkranz of Mexico City, who is chairman of Syntex Corp., scored a 127-118 win over Brenda Keller of Boise, Idaho, on the seventh day of the 10-day contest.

Thursday action saw seven new team names added to the among the 16 leaders going into today's 64-deal matches. And a Massachusetts team withdrew from the event and the league tournament.

Holding firmly onto the No. 1 seed, Malcolm Brachman of Dallas, whose team will be at the October International Bridge Federation Olympiad in Seattle, Thursday disposed of Mel Skolnik of Newport Beach, Calif., 145-100 international match points.

Second seed also remained with George Ateljevich, Las Vegas, Nev., who began in 66th place and knocked out a team of world champions in Wednesday action. Ateljevich scored 141-124 to beat H.R. Hall of Knoxville, Tenn.

Fourth seed Ed Manfield, Arlington, Va., fell to Ron Sukoneck, Annandale, Va., 139-129; Kathei Wei of New York City and her IBF Olympiad-bound team took over ninth place from George Seixus, Woburn, Mass., who had advanced from 73rd in earlier upset action.

In 10th place was Brian Glubok of New York City, who beat Steve Beatty, Birmingham, Ala., 188-57 -- a 3-1 margin of victory.

David Hoffner, Wheaton, Md., moved to eighth, defeating Dave Funk, Norman, Okla., 166-106; Randy Joyce, Raleigh, N.C., was in 14th aftering ousting Mike Rosmarin, Jamaica, N.Y., 130-117; Jim Chew, Tulsa, Okla., beat S.C. Mohan, Arlington Heights, Ill., 230-119 for the 16th spot.

Jim Looby, Burbank, Calif., went to 13th with a 131-81 defeat of John Swanson of Los Angeles. The withdrawal and forfeit by the team headed by Mosas Ma of Cambridge, Mass., sent Robert Radwyn, West Covina, Calif., against Warren Rosner, Nanuet, N.Y. Rosner won 145-89, holding 5th seed.

In other league play Thursday, more than 2,400 players were in the Flight B Swiss Teams competition, with one team sweeping undefeated through eight matches. The winners: Bob Klein, Dunn Loring, Va.; Dave Ruderman, Silver Spring, Md.; Charles Showalter, Rockville, Md., and Alfred Steinberge, Potomac, Md.

Winners of the unlimited Flight A were Sam Stayman, Palm Beach, Fla., Saul Bronstein, George Tournay and John Roberts, all of New York City, and Tom Smith, Greenwich, Conn.
