LOS ANGELES -- Coach John Hadl said Friday he will start quarterback Frank Seurer in the Los Angeles Express' final U.S. Football League regular-season game against the Arizona Wranglers.
Hadl said the decision to bench rookie quarterback Steve Young for Saturday night's game at Phoenix would not keep Young out of the starting lineup for the USFL playoffs.
'We feel this is a good opportunity for Frank to see some action before the playoffs and, at the same time, give Steve a rest,' Hadl said before the Express left for Arizona.
Express spokesman Bob Rose added Young 'is a little banged up, but he will still be available for the game if we need him.'
Since Young joined Los Angeles on April 1, the Express has won eight of their last 12 games and have a five-game winning streak going into Arizona. He has passed for 2,361 yards and 10 touchdowns in the 12 games.
The Express also activated quarterback Russ Jensen to serve as Seurer's backup for the game against the Wranglers, with Young as the No. 3 quarterback.
To keep Young on the active roster, the Express moved tight end Darren Long to the developmental squad. Long has suffered a hip pointer last week in Los Angeles' 24-19 victory over the Oakland Invaders.
