NEW YORK -- ABC was the No. 1 prime time network last week, winning six of the seven nights and placing five programs-- four of them specials -- on the Top 10 list.
The A.C. Nielsen prime time ratings for the week ending May 27 gave ABC a 14.6 rating with a 27 percent share of the viewing audience, CBS an 11.7 rating with a 21.8 share and NBC an 11.5 rating with a 21.4 share.
In the first 26 days of the May sweeps period -- one of four months each year when ratings are used to adjust the advertising rates of affiliates -- ABC has had an average rating of 15.2 with a 26.4 share compared to CBS's 13.6 with a 23.7 share and NBC's 13 with a 22.7 share.
ABC won every night last week except Sunday when its coverage of the Indianapolis 500, which placed 23rd, was beaten by the 'NBC Sunday Night Movie,' 'No Man's Land,' which placed 5th.
Part 2 of the the ABC movie 'Mystic Warrior' was the No. 2 program, while Part 2 of NBC's 'The First Olympics: Athens 1896,' competing head-on with the ABC Indian saga tied for No. 35 of the week with the 'NBC Friday Night Movie,' 'Summer Fantasy.'
'CBS Evening News with Dan Rather' won the evening news category with an 10.6 rating and a 23 share. ABC's 'World News Tonight' had an 8.6 rating with a 19 sare and 'NBC Nightly News' had a 8.5 rating with a 19 share.
