SEATTLE -- Wide receiver Dwight Scales, a seven-year NFL veteran, has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks, it was announced Thursday.

Scales, 6-foot-2 and 182 pounds, spent the last three seasons with the San Diego Chargers after previous stints with the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants. He has 54 career receptions for 1,098 yards, a 20.3 average, and four touchdowns.

Scales was Los Angeles' fifth-round draft choice from Grambling College in 1976 when Seattle coach Chuck Knox was coaching the Rams.

Scales is the third ex-Ram acquired by Knox this off-season. The Seahawks have also signed defensive lineman Mike Fanning and linebacker Jim Youngblood, both also initially drafted by Knox when he was with Los Angeles.
