Veteran film producer Samuel G. Engel was buried Monday...

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Veteran film producer Samuel G. Engel was buried Monday during private funeral services. Engel, who died at home Saturday, was 79.

Engel, a three-time president of the Screen Producers Guild, was a producer at 20th Century-Fox for nearly a quarter-century, continuing actively as an independent producer until 1966.

A family spokesman said Engel had suffered from a heart condition for several years until his death.

Engel moved to Hollywood in 1933 as an assistant director at Warner Bros. He moved to 20th Century-Fox Studios in 1936, where he wrote 'Sins of Man,' the first of the studio's films to play Radio City Music Hall. Also in 1936, he began his career as a producer with the film 'Crack-Up.'

He produced and co-produced such films as 'My Darling Clementine,' 'Sitting Pretty,' 'Mr. Belvedere Goes to College,' 'Rawhide,' 'Boy on a Dolphin,' 'Daddy Long Legs,' and 'The Lion.'

Engel was president of the Producers Guild of America from 1955 to 1958 and was responsible for bringing television producers into the organization.

Engel is survived by his wife, Ruth, two sons and two grandchildren.
