CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Navy Friday released the names of a flight instructor and two students killed in the crash of a jet trainer practicing touch-and-go landings at a site in Jim Wells County.
The instructor was Navy Lt. Edward A. Laich, 28, a native of Compton, Calif.
The student pilots, both single, were identified as Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Tony James Hunter, 27, son of Terry and Dolkores Hunter of St., Helena, Napa, Calif.; and Ensign Arthur Joseph Platt, 23, a Philadelphia native, son of Arthur and Mary Lou Platt, Beach Haven, N.J.
Witnesses said the plane had made a cross-wind turn and was preparing to touch down on a runway between Orange Grove and Alice when it plummeted stright to the ground and brust into flames on Thursday. An investigation into the cause of the crash has been convened.
