SARAJEVO, Yugoslavia -- The Yugoslav Army has provided substantial assistance in personnel and equipment for the XIV Winter Olympic Games including special helicopters for dispersing dense fog at Sarajevo Airport, officials said Saturday.

The army has sent some 10,000 troops to this central Yugoslav city of 450,000 and surrounding mountains to help the organizers in preparing and running the Games Feb. 7-l9.

Army experts have installed and maintain the communications systems in the games' Skenderija main press center and the Zetra indoor and outdoor ice rinks in downtown Sarajevo, and the Mojmilo Olympic village in a Sarajevo suburb and the local Olympic headquarters. At Sarajevo's Butmir International Airport army helicopters are on stand-by for emergency action if dense fog, which is usual in winter months in this area, to disperse it and increase visibility to make it possible for jet airliners flying from all over the world to land.
