PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Former President Gerald Ford, Jack Nicklaus' amateur partner in the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am golf tournament, hit a lady spectator on the temple with an errant teeshot Friday, but the woman was not hurt seriously.
The incident took place on the 15th hole of Spyglass Hill, one of the three courses used in the Crosby tournament.
Ford's teeshot was barely airborne when many people in the huge gallery ducked, but the unfortunate woman, who was not identified, didn't crouch and the ball hit her on the right temple.
She suffered a cut which required a stitch. The attending doctor said the injury was not serious.
Ford quickly went over to the woman to apologize and she reportedly forgave him. By the time Ford left the scene, the crowd was laughing and play resumed.
