ST. LOUIS -- Defensive tackle Rush Brown of the NFL St. Louis Cardinals is expected to sign with one of three teams in the rival U.S. Football League next week.

Brown's agent, Harold Lewis, said Thursday his client will sign with either the Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals or Birmingham Stallions.

All have offered him a three-year contract.

Brown, 29, becomes a free agent Wednesday. The Cardinals reportedly offered Brown the minimum, 10 percent pay increase for next year after he earned $82,000 this year.

'He's definitely gone,' Lewis told the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. 'Three teams are talking a nice salary for Rush at about $50,000 more than he was making with the Cardinals. And that's with a guaranteed, no-cut contract.

'He's got nothing against the Cardinals. He wants to play ball. He doesn't want to sit down.'

Brown was drafted in the 10th round by the Cardinals in 1980 and started 32 of 41 games his first three seasons. But he started only once last year and played in just six of 16 regular-season games.
