Snowball leads to death

NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. -- State police will ask juvenile authorities to prosecute four boys who apparently threw a snowball and triggered a traffic accident that killed a young woman.

Police said the boys, aged 11 to 15 years, were 'just playing inthe snow' after school when one threw a snowball Tuesday that caused a truck driver to lose control of his vehicle and flip into a Mustang driven by Barbara Hurst, 20, a student at Macomb Community College.

The medical examiner said she died instantly of a fractured skull.

State police said they will ask Macomb County juvenile authorities to prosecute the boys for involuntary manslaughter.

The trucker said he was driving with his window down when the snowball hit him on the side of the face. His truck swerved into and locked wheels with another truck, then flipped into Ms. Hurst's car.

The boys initially denied throwing snowballs, but one by one admitted they had thrown a snowball at the cab without knowing the window was down, police said.
