Deloplaine, 29, worked out for the Maulers last weekend and their training facility in suburban Baldwin Borough and did well in a series of agility and strength drills.

He signed a contract with the Maulers Tuesday morning.

'It's a second chance for me,' said Deloplaine, who starred at Salem College in West Virginia. 'I'm really looking forward to this.'

Delplaine, a 5-foot-10, 210-pounder, served three stints with the Steelers in the NFL and also spent time with the Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins.

Deloplaine has been working in construction in Pittsburgh. His agent, Ralph Murovich Sr., said Deloplaine contacted the Maulers a month ago about a tryout and the team accepted.
